Satellite Performance Estimator

About This Project

This project was conceptualized, designed, and implemented in under 12 hours out of curiosity about satellite constellations. I wanted to understand whether satellite internet would be a viable option for my location, which led to building this tool for others to explore potential satellite internet performance.

The Satellite Performance Estimator calculates theoretical download speeds and latency based on the visibility of LEO satellites at any given location. Here's how it works:

• Real-Time Satellite Tracking: The app calculates the positions of satellites using Two-Line Element (TLE) data from publicly available sources.
• Location-Based Calculations: Based on user-provided latitude and longitude, the app determines which satellites are visible and estimates theoretical performance metrics.
• Performance Estimation: Each visible satellite is assigned a simulated bandwidth, with latency calculated using the average distance to these satellites.
• Interactive Map: Users can click on the map or input an address to select a location. The app provides performance estimates in real-time.
• Weather Influence: Real-time weather data is integrated to adjust performance estimates based on current conditions at the selected location.

This project reflects my passion for learning and problem-solving. It started as a curiosity-driven idea and became a tool that provides insights into potential satellite internet performance.
